William Mathewson Murray II passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Tetonia, Idaho on March 24th 2012. Born in Long Beach CA on February 26, 1938 to William Mathewson Murray and Vivien Marie Hunter, Bill grew up in Alhambra and the deserts around 29 Palms CA. He worked for the Southern California Edison Co. as a mechanic and in November of 1961 he married Barbara Jean McKinney in Newhall, CA where his daughter Jo Lynn Lee was born. In 1964 he transferred to Kernville, CA with the Power Co. and in 1966, his son Christopher was born. In 1969 he and his wife Barbara, started Sierra Air Service in Kernville CA where he proceeded to get his instrument, commercial, multi engine, multi engine centerline thrust, and instructor's ratings. In 1975 he moved Sierra Air Service to Susanville, CA where he managed the Susanville Airport, got his A and P rating, and IA. In 1979 he married Lynne Machi and in 1986 he purchased Red Baron Flying Service which became Grand Teton Aviation and bought his cabin on Leigh Creek. In 1996 he married Roz Jaquias, and together they enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, fishing and the outdoors until her death in 2000. Bill was an accomplished aviator with over 15,000 hours in his 50 years of flight. Bill is survived by his daughter, Jo Lynn (Ron) Vernon of Susanville CA, Chris Murray of Overton NV, and 2 grandchildren, Leah Vernon of Susanville, CA & Jeromy Vernon of Reno, NV Services were held on April 3rd, 2012 at the Valley Mortuary in Driggs, Idaho.
