Donna Joyce Murdock Thompson was born in her Grandma Ellsworth’s house, May 2, 1933, in Rexburg Idaho. Her parents are Sterling and Lorena Murdock. She was #8 of 10 children. Most of her younger life she and her family lived in the Bates area of Teton Valley Idaho. Her father was a sheep rancher and raised many sheep. In the summers they grew hay and had hired men to help in the hay and with the harvesting. The children learned the value of hard work, and had a very strong family love.
She attended school her 1st-8th grades (except her 4th grade year) in a 2 room school house in Bates. The lower 4 grades were in one room and the 4 upper grades in the other room. They rode saddle horses or drove a team of horses on a wagon or sleigh to school. Her 4th grade year she and her brother Lorin both attended school at the Canyon Creek school, where their older sister Jean was the teacher. They went to school there that year to keep Jean company so she didn’t have to live alone. They lived in one end of the schoolhouse. The next year they went back to Bates school. She went to Teton High School the next 4 years.
She met her sweetheart Lamar Thompson, at a dance when she was a freshman in high school and Lamar was a senior. He had to wait for her to grow up, and graduate from Teton High School. They eventually fell in love and were married July 25, 1951 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Donna and Lamar were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings. They raised their 4 children in Victor Idaho. Lamar started a construction business and built many homes throughout Teton Valley. Donna was a stay at home wife and mother. They loved Teton Valley and both lived there most of their lives. Donna could always be found serving other people around her. She loved cooking and hosting family gatherings at her home, and everyone was welcomed there. She was an active member of the D.U.P., "Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers". In 1995-1996 Donna and Lamar served an LDS mission together in the Washington Spokane Mission.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Sterling and Lorena Murdock, her husband Lamar, and all nine of her siblings, Jean, Ruth, Sterling "Bud", Lyle, Ann, Grant, Lorin, Lorena Mae, Marva and most of their spouses. She is survived by one brother-in-law Philip Condie of St. George, Utah and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Murdock of Paris Texas and Rosalie Park of Victor ID; her 4 children, Don (Susan) Thompson of Victor ID., Elaine (Gary-deceased) Huff of Pocatello ID., Linda (Mark) Holt of Caliente NV., Alan (Julie)Thompson of Victor ID, 27 grandchildren, currently 77 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Donna passed away peacefully at her son Don's home in Victor, on Feb 24, 2025, at the age of 91. She is very loved and will be missed by many in the valley and by a huge posterity of family members.
